Baptism
What is Baptism?
Baptism declares to the world you’ve trusted Jesus, and made a commitment to follow Him.
It is also a reminder of what Jesus has done for us: He died on the cross and rose from the grave so that we could die to sin and be made alive to God (Rom. 6:11). When we are lowered into the water, we remember His sacrificial death. When we are raised out of the water, we remember His victorious resurrection.
Why should I be baptized?
*Because Jesus commands it.
Jesus said; “Go then, to all people everywhere and make them my disciples, baptize them in the name of the father, the son, and the Holy Spirit, and then teach them to obey everything I have commanded you —Matt 28:19-20. If you are a new believer and have decided to receive Christ into your life, you can and should be baptized.
*It illustrates our new birth as a Christian
When someone becomes a Christian, he becomes a brand new person inside. “The old life has passed away and a new life has begun.” —2 Cor 5:17
Does baptism save me?
No. Trusting in Jesus Christ is the only means of personal salvation. “For it is by grace you have been saved, through faith. It is the gift of God – not by works, so that no one can boast.” —Ephesians 2: 8, 9
I was baptized as an infant; should I be baptized again?
If you were baptized as an infant for the purpose of salvation, we strongly encourage you to be baptized again. Baptism follows salvation and involves making a public profession of faith to follow Christ.
